World Wildlife Day.

Hello Everyone My Name is Vivek Chaturvedi. I am writing a blog about World Wildlife Day.

World Wildlife Day 2022: It is observed on 3 March every year to highlight the importance of Wlid life on Earth. Let us read more about World Wildlife Day, its current theme, history, significance, and some facts related to wildlife.

Around the world, between 200 and 350 million people live within or adjacent to forested areas and rely on several ecosystem services provided by forest and forest species for their livelihoods and also to cover their most basic needs like food, shelter, energy, and medicines.

Around 28% of the world's land surface is presently managed by indigenous peoples, including some of the most ecologically intact forests on the planet. These spaces are not only important to their economic and personal well-being but also to their cultural identities.

As we know that wildlife is facing threats due to human activities. Various challenges are faced by wildlife include loss of habitat, industrialized farming, commercial development, and overgrazing. Poaching and the trafficking of animals may also lead to risks to various species like tigers, rhinos, and elephants, etc.

How to get involved

Though we may not be able to meet in person, there are plenty still plenty of ways for you and everyone to take part in the 2022 World Wildlife Day celebrations, wherever you are.

The global World Wildlife Day celebration will be held on 3 March 2022. More information on the event to come.

But World Wildlife Day is not about any one single event. The Day has been observed in the in the past by people, groups and authorities around the world and in various ways.

You too can join the celebrations! You can start by spreading the word of this year’s theme, "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration".

By simply taking an interest in this year's upcoming events and celebrations, you can help us raise awareness of the status of the world’s endangered and critically endangered species, the key role they play for their ecosystems and for the well-being of communities who live near them and beyond, and of the need to continue all efforts to conserve them and their habitats.

There is plenty more you can do every day to support the message of World Wildlife Day. Here are some of our suggestions for this year's celebrations:

World Wildlife Day 2022: Theme

The theme for 2022 is "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration".

World Wildlife Day: History

On 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3 March – the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973 – as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. The UNGA resolution also designated the CITES Secretariat as the facilitator for the global observance of this special day for wildlife on the UN calendar. World Wildlife Day has now become the most important global annual event dedicated to wildlife.

Film showcase

The Secretariat of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Jackson Wild have teamed up once more to organize an international Film Showcase as part of the celebration of the 2022 UN World Wildlife Day.

The Showcase, the seventh of its kind, will highlight films that explore the threats weighing on endangered species of wild fauna and flora, their central importance for their habitats and ecosystems and for the communities who live near them, and the numerous initiatives that are setting out to conserve them.

All entries and the winning films will help further illustrate the theme of this year’s celebration, "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration". They will raise global awareness of the status of vulnerable species around the world and of the power of conservation efforts working to reversing their fate.

The call for entries will be open until January 7 2022 and finalists will be announced in mid-February 2022. There is no entry fee for submission. Any film completed after January 1st, 2019 featuring a threatened species included on the IUCN Red List, is eligible to compete.

Submissions in all languages are welcomed. Programs in a language other than English must be subtitled in English for presentation to the judges and for streaming as part of the World Wildlife Day Film Showcase. Find out more by completing an online submission form via www.jacksonwild.org.
