World Food Safety Day

Hello Everyone My Name is Vivek Chaturvedi. I am writing a vlog about World Food Safety Day

There is a proverb Health is wealth. If food is not safe then how can health be? So safe food and safe health are the two faces of the same coin. To ensure the safe food to every consumer the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations decide to celebrate 7th June as the first-ever “World Food Safety Day”.

Food,Clothing and Shelter are termed as the basic needs of the human beings. Human being works very hard to fulfil the requirement of these basic needs.

Indian and international agencies are striving hard to provide adequate information to the general masses about the importance of the safe food.

The United Nations (UN) has assigned two of its agencies, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to lead efforts in promoting food safety around the world.

In this direction the World Health Organisation (WHO) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations decided to celebrate 7th June as the First food safety day since 7th June 2021.

The first ever World Food Safety Day, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018. The theme of the first ever Food Safety Day 2019 is "Food Safety, everyone's business".

What is Food Safety?

Food safety is the absence or safe, acceptable levels of hazards in food that may harm the health of consumers. Food-borne hazards can be chemical or physical in nature and are often invisible to the plain eye.

Examples:  Viruses, bacteria or pesticide residues and microbiological elements etc.

Why is food safety necessary?

As per an estimation nearly 600 million people in the world fall ill and 420,000 die after eating food contaminated by viruses, bacteria, parasites or chemical substances every year.

Unsafe food also hampers development in many low- and middle-income economies, which lose around US$ 95 billion in productivity associated with disability, illness, and premature death of the workers.

So form the above explanation the readers must understand that when “World Food Day” is celebrated and why is it celebrated.
